The Tison Tool Barn is a component of the Matheson History Museum. It is located behind the main museum building at 513 E. University Avenue, Gainesville, FL 32602. The building and about 500 old tools in it were donated to the Matheson Museum in 1995 by John Mason Tison. Another 500 tools and other items have been added to the Tison Tool Barn collection since then. The Tison Tool Barn holds hand tools
used in a number of occupations, including farming, forestry, naval
stores (turpentine) collection, blacksmithing, carpentry and joinery,
coopering, metal working, mechanics and electrical wiring.
The Tison Tool Barn is generally open by appointment only, depending on the availability of staff to conduct tours. The Tool Barn may also be open during some events at the Museum. Please call the Museum office at (353) 378-2280 to arrange a tour, or to inquire whether the Tool Barn will be open during an event.
